How to Set Up and Use the BT5960 Digital Cordless Phone with Answering Machine
Initial Setup
- Connect the power supply: Plug the base unit into a working electrical outlet.
- Charge the phone: Place the handset on the base and let it charge for 16 hours before using it.
- Connect to the phone line: Insert the phone line cord into the wall socket. If you have broadband, use a microfilter (not included) to prevent interference.
- Turn on the answer machine: Press the 'Answer On' button on the base. The 'On' light will confirm that the answer machine is active.
Setting the Answer Mode
Access the menu: Press Menu on the handset until you see Answ Machine, then press OK.
Choose Answer Mode: Scroll to Answer Mode and press OK.
Select Mode: Choose between Answer + Rec (allows callers to leave messages) or Answer Only (just answers the call without recording). Press OK to confirm your selection.
Setting the Answer Delay
Access the Menu: Press Menu until you see Answ Machine, then press OK.
Choose Answer Setting: Scroll to Answer Setting and press OK.
Set Ring Delay: Scroll to Ring delay and press OK. Select the number of rings (2 to 9) before the answer machine picks up and press OK to confirm.
Using the Answer Machine
Playing Messages: Press Play button on the base. The green light will flash if there are new messages.
Deleting Messages: During playback, press Delete to remove the current message.
To delete all old messages, press and hold Delete on the handset.
Remote Access: Set a remote access PIN (default is 0000). Dial your number from another phone, press '#' followed by your PIN, and use the following commands:
1: Replay previous message
2: Play all messages
3: Play next message
6: Delete current message
7: Turn answer machine on
8: Stop playback
9: Turn answer machine off
Additional Tips
Avoid Interference: Place the base and handsets at least one metre away from other electrical appliances or metal obstructions. Position the base as high as possible to improve signal strength and reduce interference. Avoid placing the phone or base in humid areas, such as bathrooms, and keep the area well-ventilated.
Check Battery Levels: Ensure the handset is charged to avoid the range icon flashing. Running the batteries down at least once a week will help them last longer. After an initial 16-hour charge, subsequent charging time is approximately 8 hours.
Call Blocking: To block nuisance calls, you need a Caller Display service. Access the 'Block' menu, enter your PIN, and select the call types or specific numbers you want to block.
Advanced Features
Call Blocking: Block specific types of calls (International, Withheld, Unavailable, Payphone) or up to 100 specific numbers. Set this up by entering your access PIN and navigating through the menu to select the desired options.
Auto Pick-Up and Auto Hang-Up: Set the phone to answer a call when you take the phone off the base, and to hang up when you put it back. Adjust these settings in the Personal Set menu.
Backlight Control: Turn the backlight on or off to save battery or for personal preference. This can be done by navigating to the Backlight option in the Personal Set menu.
Answer Machine Settings: Set the answer machine to let callers leave a message or tell them that the call can't be taken right now. Set the answer delay to ensure it answers before your voicemail service does. Switch the answer machine on or off, or change the outgoing message using the Answ Machine and Answ Setting options in the menu.
Intercom and Call Transfer: Make internal calls between registered handsets and transfer external calls to other handsets. This is useful for multi-handset setups.
