Using Wi-Fi Calling

How do I call and text?

Just call, text and send picture messages as normal whenever you see the "Wi-Fi Call" indicator in the top left-hand of your screen. Wi-Fi Calling doesn't use any of your data allowances. Instead, calls and texts come out of your monthly calls allowances.

Unlike calls made over the internet (like Skype, WhatsApp or Viber), you don't need a separate app.

What happens if I move out of range of my Wi-Fi?

If your phone supports 5G/4G Calling, it'll seamlessly hand over to 5G/4G as you move out of Wi-Fi range and hand back when you come back into range.

If your phone doesn't support 5G/4G Calling or you don't have 5G or 4G coverage, your call will drop as you move out of Wi-Fi range. You'll need to make the call again once you have a mobile or Wi-Fi signal.

Can I get my Wi-Fi Calling to switch on automatically whenever I connect to my home Wi-Fi?

Once you've connected to your Wi-Fi network, it should connect automatically next time.

If you're using Wi-Fi Calling with public Wi-Fi, you may need to reconnect each time you use it.

Can I call 999 using Wi-Fi Calling?

You can call the emergency services on 999, but they can't identify your location. You should use a landline if you can - only use Wi-Fi Calling as a last resort. You should never rely on Wi-Fi Calling as your only way to call 999.

Can I use Wi-Fi Calling abroad?

Sorry, but Wi-Fi Calling doesn't work while you're roaming. You'll still be able to make calls over your mobile network as normal.
