Most devices these days are sold unlocked. However, if you have an older device, you may find it's locked to BT or another network.
If your device is locked to another network, you'll need to unlock it before you can use a BT SIM.
How to unlock your device
- Check if it's locked
Insert a BT SIM. If you see a message like SIM not supported or Enter unlock code, your device is locked. - Request an unlock code
Contact the network your device is locked to. They'll give your the code and instructions. - Enter the code
Follow the steps from your previous network to unlock your device. Once unlocked you can use your BT SIM.
Important to know
- Unlocking times may vary by network. Some may charge a fee.
- Make sure your device is paid off before requesting an unlock.
- If you input the wrong pin in multiple times you may be required to contact your provider for a PUK code, a Personal Unblocking Key, to reset the system.
