Digital Voice FW500 Hybrid phone

How it works

The FW500 works with your Digital Voice service and any other landline phones you still use. It connects through your Digital Voice line. But if there’s a power cut or broadband outage, it automatically switches to its built-in SIM so you can make emergency calls over the mobile network.

Important things to know

Always keep your FW500 plugged into the green port on the back of your Smart Hub and connected to a power socket. This keeps the battery charged and ready to use during a power cut.

The SIM comes with a limited number of minutes. Use it only when needed. You can always call 999, even if your minutes run out.

You’ll find the mobile number for your FW500 on the front of the leaflet in the packaging it will arrive in. Keep it safe in case you need it.

The phone has a signal strength indicator. Make sure the antenna is upright. If the signal is weak, try plugging it into a different socket using a Digital Voice Adapter. Contact us if you need one.

Battery life

The phone uses a 750 mAh Ni-MH battery pack. It should last around 3 years. If it needs replacing, get in touch and we’ll send you a new one.

During an outage the battery will last:

  • up to 8 hours on standby
  • around 1 hour of talk time

If you're on a call when the power goes out

Any call on a Digital Voice or landline phone will drop if there's a power cut. You can then use the FW500 to make emergency calls.

If you're using the FW500 when power returns

Your call will continue over the mobile network. Once you hang up, the phone will switch back to Digital Voice.
