If you’re having trouble logging in to your BT Email account, repeated failures can lead to your account being locked for security reasons. This article explains why login issues happen, what steps you need to take to fix them, and how to prevent future problems.
Most login failures happen because you've changed your password but haven't updated it on all your devices and email programs.
If we detect multiple failed login attempts on your BT Email account, we'll lock it to protect you. We'll then ask you to change your password to keep it secure.
If you use a mobile device, tablet, or an email client (such as Microsoft Outlook or Mac Mail) to view your BT Email, make sure you update the password in that app whenever you change it. Refer to your manufacturer's help for guidance. Usually, you'll find it under Settings or Tools.
Maybe you've:
- Used someone else’s email client, mobile device or tablet to access your BT Email account.
- Allowed someone else to access your account using an email client, mobile device or tablet.
- Recently changed your email client, mobile device or tablet.
- Lost a mobile device you used to access your BT Email, or had one stolen.
If you answered yes to any of these, the client or device may still be trying to access your BT Email account with an old password.
- If you've still got it, you'll need to update the password or delete the connection.
- Once you've updated your password, log back in to your BT Email account at www.bt.com. You may see a message asking you to change your password again.
