Why was an email I sent never received, or bounced back to me?

If an email you’ve sent hasn’t arrived or bounced back, it can be frustrating. There are several common reasons this happens, from simple mistakes like saving a draft instead of sending, to delays caused by internet traffic. This guide explains the most likely causes and how to fix the problem quickly.

  1. There are several reasons why this might have happened:
  2. You may not have sent the email. Check your Sent folder to confirm.
  3. You might have saved the email as a draft without sending it. Check your Drafts folder.
  4. The email address may be wrong. You might have typed the wrong address or made a typo that matches another valid address. Check your Sent folder and confirm the address.
  5. Your email may be delayed. Most arrive within minutes, but heavy internet traffic or routing issues can cause delays of several hours.
  6. Rarely, internet disruptions can make emails undeliverable. There’s no easy way to know if an email is delayed or lost, so the best option is to resend it from your Sent folder.
