Using BT Text

BT Text will be closing. It's not available to new customers

From June 2025, existing customers will continue to receive messages, but these will be delivered as voice messages. From October 2025, you’ll no longer be able to send text messages through your home phone.

We have contacted all users of the text service to inform them of the upcoming changes and will support them in finding alternative solutions with our partners if needed.

If you use BT Text to help you communicate and need to find a service that will support you after the closing date, then Relay UK is a free service that helps deaf people and those with hearing loss or speech impairments communicate over the phone.

What will happen if I get sent a text message from a mobile phone?

You will receive text calls if you’ve been sent a text message. An electronic voice will read the message out. You can stop them or set curfews by calling 0800 028 2321 from the home phone you're using.

If you don’t answer the call, the service will retry over the next 24 hours.
